Sir,
With reference to paragraph 6 of my des
patch No.475 of the 26th.instant., I have the honour to infor
you that the Acting Principal Civil Medical Officer does not
consider it necessary, in the event of Mr.Bagg's dismissal, to
secure the services of an Englishman to fill the post thereby
rendered vacant, and has recommended in the letter of which I
enclose a copy, the appointment of Acting Wardmaster Tong Po
to be Wardmaster in the Medical Department on a salary of
$240 a year rising to $408 by $24 yearly.

2. Pending a reply to my despatch above
mentioned I have authorised the provisional appointment of
Tong Po as recommended by Dr.Bell, and it is therefore unne-
cessary to request the Crown Agents to procure the services
of a successor to Mr.Bagg in England.
